Polar Express 2019

Image from here.

Last year, I turned my classroom into the Polar Express. Last year, I was also teaching first grade.  Since I'm in third grade this year - and in a new classroom, I decided to change it up a little bit.  I wanted every scene from the book hanging up in my room.  I thankfully had parent help creating the scenes and hanging them up.  (THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!)  The students helped with coloring and painting.

I read the book for them in the morning - and they pointed out every single scene while I was reading.
During the movie, they would shout out, "Mrs. Lynch! That scene is over there!" and they would point to that scene.

We had a great discussion afterwards where we compared book and movie. "Why wasn't that in the book?"  "Why is Pennywise in the movie?"  "Where are his friends in the book?"  The questions kept on coming!

Without further ado, here is a tour of my room:

The first two pictures are actually one - I just couldn't get it in one photo since it wrapped around the corner!

The wolf scene was one that I made last year.

This was made last year (by my co-teacher.)

I made this last year as well.  It was cut into two pieces to fit on the sides of my Promethean Board.

Again, I had to cut this picture to fit on the sides of my Promethean Board.

I ran out of space in my room so I had to put these two scenes on top of each other.

My favorite.

I also have a video tour which you can see here.  When you watch the video, you can see how I set up the rest of the room - especially when it was time to watch the movie and enjoy our snacks!

They enjoyed themselves today! :-)

Have a wonderful holiday - no matter what you celebrate!
Happy New Year!

Classroom Tour 2018-2019

Quote from here.

It's time for back to school!  This is year number 14 for me! I can't believe it!

I want to give you all a tour of my room!  You can check out the video tour here.

Here is the picture tour with links when possible.

I got the idea for this bulletin board from Pinterest. I actually have more students than I lead you to believe on my bulletin board!

This is outside of my door.  The top quote is from a book called Each Kindness.  I love to read it at the start of the year.  The letter, I found on Pinterest - which led to this link.  Last year's class LOVED reading it every single day!

Door decorations (and all the tropical decorations you'll see in my room,) are from Oriental Trading.

This whiteboard came from the Target Dollar Spot.  (Thanks Target!)

One big view of my classroom! I have a deskless classroom which you can read about here.

The item my hall passes are hanging on came from Target.

My book corner.

My microfiber carpets came from Dormco. They are machine washable!

Rest of book corner and some of my flexible seating.

My puzzles.

My hanging bookshelf.  Underneath it are the hooks for backpacks and coats.

Storage for papers, centers, and small group items.

My desk and my reading group table.  The light blue bins came from Dollar Tree.  My awesome glitter pencil cup came from this website.

Sink area.

Door to my closet.

Computer area along with my Caps corner.  If you don't know, the last two years, my students created hockey movies.  Here is movie #1, and movie #2.

Calendar and more flexible seating.

Whiteboard, clipboards, and the shelves where they keep their folders and pencil boxes.

Promethean board and my stage.  The step says, "Step Up To Your Dreams."

My growth mindset board.  I bought these off of Teachers Pay Teachers.

Bins are from Target.  One set of binders are their data notebooks, one set is for their journal writing, and one set is the guided reading books from Deedee Wills and Deanna Jump.

Small group table.

Word wall and other storage areas.

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope everyone has a wonderful school year! :-)

Fabulous 50's

Image from here.

For several years, I have celebrated the 50th day of school!  It's always a blast.  (I didn't do it last year as I was out that day.)

Of course I dressed up! :-)

I even managed to convince my co-teacher to wear one of my extra skirts and other accessories!

I decorated my room:

My boys came in looking SO handsome!  (Some of the boys wanted to wear my extra glasses so I let them!)

I had dresses if my girls wanted to wear them.  Some wanted glasses.  They ALL wanted the necklaces! :-)

Then we had a group shot!

We had a blast today!  (I'm sorry I didn't take more pictures.)
We compared the 1950's to today.  They were SHOCKED at how there were no computers, cell phones, or cable TV back then.  They also couldn't imagine watching a small tv in black and white for the most part.  We did a picture sort of items from the 1950's and today.

    We counted by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s up to 50.

We made root beer floats.  Afterwards, they wrote how to make a root beer float and wrote their opinion on if they liked the root beer float or not and why they felt that way.

Finally, we had a dance party full of 50's music!  I did take a few pics here.

You can read about 50's day from 2013 here and from 2014 here.

    Thanks for stopping by! :-)
